Our Commitment to Web Accessibility

Ehrler Orthodontics is committed to providing a fully accessible website experience for all users of all abilities, including those who rely on assistive technologies like screen readers, screen enlargement software, and alternative keyboard input devices to navigate the web.

Ongoing Efforts to Ensure Accessibility

We follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.1 as our guiding principle for determining accessibility. These are internationally agreed-upon standards that cover a wide range of recommendations and best practices for making content useable. As we add new pages and functionality to our website, all designs, code, and content entry practices are checked against these standards.

Website accessibility is an ongoing process. We continually test content and features for WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance and remediate any issues to ensure we meet or exceed the standards. Testing of our website is performed by our team members using industry-standard tools such as the Accessibility Checker WordPress Plugin, color contrast analyzers, keyboard-only navigation techniques, and Flesch-Kincaid readability tests.

Accessibility Features On Our Website

The following is a list of items we have included in our website to improve its accessibility:

  • Descriptive alternative (alt) text added to all meaningful images, including patient photos, service icons, and logos, for screen reader users.
  • Logical and semantic heading structure with one H1 per page and proper H2/H3 hierarchy to improve navigation and readability.
  • Full keyboard operability with clearly visible focus indicators on all interactive elements such as menus, buttons, and links.
  • Sufficient color contrast ratios meeting WCAG requirements for text and graphical elements to ensure better legibility.
  • Properly labeled and accessible forms, including contact and appointment forms, with associated labels, ARIA attributes, and clear error handling.
  • Semantic landmarks and ARIA roles applied, such as role=”banner” for the header, role=”main” for primary content, and role=”navigation” for menus, to enhance screen reader support.
  • Improved link text that is descriptive and unique to provide clear purpose without ambiguity.
  • Titles added to all embedded content, such as Google Maps iframes, to clearly describe their function.
  • Decorative icons and non-informative elements properly hidden from assistive technologies using aria-hidden=”true”.
  • Clear instructions provided for downloadable files, including patient forms in PDF and DOC formats, with guidance on digital completion options.

Continuous Improvement

While we have taken significant steps to enhance accessibility, we recognize that accessibility is an ongoing effort. We are committed to continued monitoring, evaluation, and improvement of our website.
